The kitchen is the heart of the home, where everyone gathers to cook, eat and entertain. Statistics reveal that family members and guests (ask any host who has dinner parties) spend more time in the kitchen than any other room. Now apply this to selling your home – we’ve all heard it: Kitchens and baths sell homes.Morris County NJ Home Staging, NJ Home Stager, North Jersey Home Staging

The old school of thought was to clear everything off your counters leaving them sterile and cold. Conversely, you don’t want clutter i.e. every appliance you own: toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, mixer, food processor, ect.  Hardscape needs to be softened with emotional connections. Plants, a well-appointed bottle of wine with pretty glasses, colorful fresh fruit, a cookbook vignette, and/or a bowl of artichokes add life, beauty and invoke feelings of home cooked meals, family dinners and entertaining.

This kitchen is an example of untapped potential.  Underneath all the clutter (my clients were in the troughs of packing to move to their new home) was a bright, airy space with beautiful windows looking out at their meticulously manicured landscaping. Moreover, it had a great layout with an attached sun-room.  However, it was obscured by the 80’s vertical blinds, dated ceiling fans, and of course, all the clutter from cleaning out the cabinets.

I advised my clients to take down both the ceiling fans and blinds in favor of inexpensive sheers and flush mounted lighting fixtures. At first they were reluctant, but as you can see, the transformation was amazing. Because their kitchen table was faux marble it detracted from the real marble counters and island which were beautiful so we brought in a simple espresso wood table that contrasted with the light colored walls.  We also addressed the kitchen’s dated stools and switched them out for contemporary, sleek black ones which enhanced the black in the marble.

These simple changes took this dated space and transformed it to a contemporary, bright and cheerful kitchen that lends itself to entertaining with lots of space. In addition, we updated the attached sun-room so it flowed and was part of the overall space.

Home Staging is not about major renovations (which I highly suggest you don’t do because you won’t recoup your money), but reasonable updating. My clients got more than 100% of their staging investment back when they sold their home.
